October is one of my favourite months of the year.
The skies are blue but the weather is cooler and there is an autumnal chill in the air. The leaves have started turning and falling in piles perfect for collecting and kicking. Yet, the woods behind our house are still dappled with green.
My sandals have been packed away and the boots are out. It is too cold to go outside without a jacket but the winter coats, hats, gloves and scarfs are yet to make an appearance.
Christmas is around the corner. However, there are still 79 days to go. Plenty of time to buy presents, write cards and fill the house with festive cheer.
October is a fabulous month. And we are going to be busy busy busy. So once again I am joining in with the gorgeous Beth at Twinderelmo with my October bucket list.
My Monthly bucket list – October 2016
Little Miss H is going to be starting primary school in September 2017. And it is almost time for Mr H and me to don our hats of maturity and to start thinking about which schools we would like Little Miss to attend.
We went to one open day this morning and we have another few to attend. Luckily we live within throwing distance of one of the best schools in the area. Hopefully, Little Miss H will get offered a place there.
October is a month of holidays and holiday planning. In over a week we are going to Dorset for a few days . We are staying on a farm and Little Miss H is extremely excited.
Then later on in the month, Little Miss, Little Mister H and I will be spending the half term holiday at my parents’ house.
The impact of pre-school has caught up with Little Miss H over the past week. She has been very tired and grumpy. She needs a rest and I know that she will love seeing her Grandma and Grandpa.
Then in November we are visiting Bluestone National Park Resort for a mini break. There is so much to see and do when we are there. I need to start planning and book onto any activities that we want to do.
This weekend my wider family are gathering to celebrate my mum’s 70th birthday.
Her actual birthday was in July but I was very selfishly about to have a baby and was due a week after. In the end Little Mister H decided to arrive 11 days early and was an early birthday present.
This weekend my parents, my brothers and their families and Mr H, Little Miss H, Little Mister and I will be going for lunch to celebrate.
We will also be having a family photograph taken as my mum’s birthday present. 8 adults and 6 children. It is going to be fun!
Little Mister H has the cutest outfit for the occasion and is going to look gorgeous. He has been gifted some wonderful clothes from the Autumn/ Winter 2016 childrenswear collection at Vertbaudet*.
I joined Weight Watcher’s a few weeks ago and I am already seeing the benefits.
I have lost weight. My stomach is flatter. My waist is more defined. And I managed to fit into my beloved GAP denim mini skirt (I am NEVER throwing it away).
My diet has vastly improved and I now need to crank up the exercise.
I don’t drive and I walk everywhere. This is often while pushing a buggy laden down with bags, or while baby wearing or sometimes both. And Tunbridge Wells is all hills. So I definitely get a good workout when I walk into town.
But I know that I feel better when I exercise daily. I am going to start to do the 30 Day Shred again. I really enjoy the workouts and they quickly make a real difference to the way I look and feel.
It is time to get my body back and to put away my maternity clothes.
I love autumn.
I am not a fan of extremes. And so my favourite seasons are spring and autumn.
I really want to make time to enjoy the season. And to have fun introducing the wonders of autumn to Little Miss H.
I want us to:
- Take long autumnal walks in the woods, collecting leaves and conkers.
- Make collages with the autumnal leaves collected.
- Create paintings with red, yellow, orange and brown paint.
- Make autumnal playdoh.
- Hibernate under the duvet when the weather is bad and cuddle up to watch a movie (popcorn and hot chocolate are obligatory).
- Decorate a pumpkin.
- Make and ice halloween biscuits.
- Wrap up warm and have a tea party picnic in the garden.
I am going to block out times in my diary to make sure that we are filling the time when Little Miss H isn’t at pre-school.
Thinking ahead to Christmas
I am sorry to mention the C-word!!
This will be our first Christmas as a family of four. And… I. AM. SO. EXCITED. Eeeeek!
Mr H and I believe that Christmas starts on 1st December. I like to honour this by planning activities throughout Advent.
I want to have Christmas all wrapped up by the end of November, so that I can enjoy the whole of December with my family and not have to stress.
October has already got off to a flying start. And I am looking forward to the rest of the month.
What do you have planned for October? Do you love it as much as I do?
