Little Mister H has been grouchy all day. He’s been clingy and cried every time I have put him down. There has been a swimming pool full of dribble. He has been chewing everything in sight. And he has had a slight temperature and red cheeks. He is teething. And it sucks.
When Little Miss started teething I had no idea what to do. I had read about it in baby books and magazines but nothing prepared me for how to cope with a teething baby. My lovely little girl could turn into a gremlin over night. All because a pesky tooth was trying to push its way through her gums.
I was desperate to learn how I could help my baby and soothe the pain. So I put a shout out on Social Media and asked for advice.
Many of my friends replied to my plea for help. And I received lots of excellent advice and product recommendations . As a result, I was fully prepared when Little Mister H started to show the tell-tale signs of teething. Thank goodness, as he seems to be suffering more than his sister did. Bless him.
To help other parents who don’t have a clue how to cope with teething, I thought that I would share my top 5 teething products.
My top 5 teething products
1. Matchstick Monkey*
Little Mister H’s Matchstick Monkey arrived in our house almost two weeks ago. And since that day he and Little Mister H have been inseparable. Our little man has even fallen asleep clutching his blue monkey in his hand.
Matchstick Monkey is the best teething toy that we have ever used and Little Mister adores him. It was designed by mum Kate when her daughter was born. And it is obvious that this teething toy and teething gel applicator has been designed by someone who knows the needs of a teething baby.
Little Mister H finds the toy easy to hold (in fact, you can’t get it away from him) and every part of the toy gets given a good chewing. However, he is particularly fond of giving Matchstick Monkey’s head a gnaw. This is probably because the back of the monkey’s head is covered with little bumps that gently massage our baby boy’s gums.
But in my opinion, the reason Matchstick Monkey is the best teething toy around is due to its dual purpose as a teething gel applicator. Today, Little Mister H was inconsolable and it was impossible to apply the gel and granules that I knew he needed. So I applied the gel (and later the granules) to the back of Matchstick Monkeys head. Little Mister immediately popped the monkey in his mouth and was able to apply the teething gel where he needed it most.
At £9.99 the Matchstick Monkey really is worth its weight in gold. And is an essential teething product.
2. Lamb & Bear Dribble Scarves
Little Miss H didn’t dribble when she was a baby but Little Mister definitely does. And when he is teething he can produce an ocean of dribble. His clothes are often soaked within a few hours of getting him dressed.
The solution to this is Dribble Scarves and I especially love these ones from Lamb & Bear (designed by one of my blogging buddies, Alex).
These bibs are made from double layered 100% cotton and are in the most gorgeous designs. I love the Stevie Stegosaurus and Croc Croc designs. Practical and stylish. What baby could ask for more?! (Shhhh – don’t tell Mr H, but I may just have ordered some leggings to match Little Mister H’s Croc Croc Dribble Scarf).
3. Nelsons® Teetha® Teething Granules
Teething Granules are one of the best ways of helping to soothe the pain of teething. And the Nelsons® Teetha® Teething Granules are the best that we have tried. They are a homeopathic remedy and each sachet contains Chamomilla recutita (Chamomilla) 6c.
Simply pour the contents of the sachet into your baby’s mouth. Or add the granules to the bristles on the back of your Matchstick Monkey and allow your baby to put the granules in their own mouth.
I have always found that these granules work pretty quickly. And not only do they help to soothe the pain but they also relieve other symptoms of teething too.
4. Nelsons® Teetha® Teething Gel
The beauty of the Nelsons® Teetha® Teething Gel is that in can be used in combination with the teething granules. (But please don’t exceed a maximum of 6 doses in 24 hours). And this homeopathic gel helps to soothe sore and inflamed gums.
5. We Made Me Pao Carrier*
I realise that a baby carrier may seem a bizarre teething product but please bear with me.
There have been many times today when Little Mister H has been inconsolable. He has screamed every time I have put him down. And he has wanted constant Mummy cuddles.
The only way I have been able to get anything done (and that includes going to the toilet and making myself some toast for lunch) was to put him in my We Made Me Pao Carrier.
Carrying a teething baby allows you to be hands free and give your baby the precious cuddles they need. Win win!
Do you have any favourite products to help soothe a teething baby? How do you help your baby when they have teeth coming in? I would love to hear all your tips and recommendations in the comments.
