I remember finding weaning Little Miss H stressful. Even the thought of beginning the weaning journey sent me into a panic.

Before we began to wean Little Miss I decided to do some research so that I actually knew what I was doing. I read books and I held an NCT led course on weaning in our house.

At first, I gave Little Miss H finger food. But this was not popular.

She often refused all the food that I offered her. Instead, her carefully prepared meals would end up on the floor. And she would cry as she was still hungry.

I eventually started to give her purées which she gobbled up. But I’d found the whole experience fraught with stress.

As Little Mister H reached the age for weaning I decided that I was going to take a much more relaxed approach the second time around.

But I couldn’t have predicted that the experience of weaning Little Mister H would be extremely different from weaning his sister.

Little Mister H could not tolerate finger food or anything solid. He would end up gagging and being sick. So I decided to give him purées. But this didn’t work either.

He decided that he would only eat the fruit purées. If I gave him something savoury then he would clamp his mouth shut and refuse to eat anything.

I was at my wits end. And once again I felt like I was failing to wean my child. I didn’t want to give him only fruit. But I didn’t know what else to do.

Then the lovely people at Goodness Gracious Food Company sent us a hamper of their 100% organic, free-from ayureveda-inspired purées and we experienced a weaning win!

Little Mister H now eats absolutely everything. He eats more than his sister ever did. And I’m convinced it is thanks to these delicious and balanced organic purées.

Weaning with organic purées from Goodness Gracious Food Company

Goodness Gracious Food Company was founded by mum Katherine Gubbins.

Katherine decided to create her own range of baby food when she was unable to buy organic, tasty and healthy food for her children. She wanted baby food that was free from sugars, salt, hidden additives and gluten. She couldn’t find this and so the organic purées from Goodness Gracious Food Company were born.

Goodness Gracious Food Company’s organic purées are based on the principles of ayurveda.

If your interested to know what this means then their website has more information. But I have copied out a snippet below.

I also love the fact that the website shows the origins of every ingredient.  And all those ingredients are organically certified by the UK Soil Association.

“Our food is perfectly balanced for children and adults to ensure optimum nutrition and nourishment. We never mix fruits with vegetables, meat and fish because this can leave babies with an uncomfortable feeling in their stomachs. We believe in using all our ingredients in moderation.”

Our hamper of goodies from the Goodness Gracious Food Company included the following pouches:

  • Apple Purée (suitable from 4 months old)
  • Pear Purée (suitable from 4 months old)
  • Apple, Apricot and Cinnamon Purée (suitable from 4 months old)
  • Carrot, Broccoli, Quinoa and Pea Purée (suitable from 4 months old)
  • Chicken, Sweet Potato and Spinach Purée with Mint and Lemon Juice (suitable from 8 months old)
  • Sweet Potato, Butternut Squash and Carrot Purée (suitable from 8 months old)
  • Kale, Parsnip, Courgette, Quinoa Purée with Cumin and Fennel Seeds (suitable from 8 months old)

But you can also buy:

  • Banana, Plum and Quinoa Purée (suitable from 4 months old)
  • Mango, Coconut Milk and Brown Rice Purée (suitable from 4 months old)
  • Pumpkin and Coconut Milk Purée with Cardamon (suitable from 8 months old)

All these sound delicious. And Little Mister H was a huge fan.

Of course, his favourite were the Apple and Pear Purées. Previously he had turned up his nose at all the savoury pouches that I’d offered him. But he’d happily eaten the sweeter fruit purées.

One day, I offered Little Mister H the Chicken, Sweet Potato and Spinach Purée with Mint and Lemon Juice for lunch. I thought that he’d clamp his mouth shut and refuse to eat anything.

But to my surprise he loved it and he ate the whole thing. He did allow me a little taste. And it was yummy. The lemon and mint gave it a lovely flavour. Not at all like some of the bland pouches I’d been giving him in the past.

Little Mister H was a fan of all the purées except for the Kale, Parsnip, Courgette, Quinoa Purée with Cumin and Fennel Seeds. It wasn’t a surprise that he didn’t like these flavours. I don’t like cumin and fennel seeds and they did make the purée bitter. And Little Mister H has his Mummy’s sweet tooth.

Aside from that, I would recommend the organic purées from Goodness Gracious. Giving them to Little Mister H really helped us win at weaning. And I love the fact that they are made from organic ingredients and are perfectly balanced for your baby to digest easily.

Even my fussy little man approved!

Goodness Gracious Food’s organic purées can be found in selected ASDA stores and online at their website.
