The ultimate apple and blackberry crumble recipe

A photograph of the ultimate Apple and Blackberry Crumble in a white china dish on a wooden board and with a sterling silver serving spoon - the apple and blackberry crumble is filled with beautiful and succulent apple and blackberries and covered in a yummy crunchy crumble that is topped with porridge oats - The Ultimate Apple and Blackberry Crumble Recipe - Mrs H's favourite things

The recent odd weather has meant that the hedgerows near us are already filled with ripe and juicy blackberries. And ever since I spied them, on a recent walk down to the woods, Little Miss H and I’ve been desperate to make apple and blackberry crumble. Last Saturday, when Mr H was at football, I thought that we’d take advantage of the sunshine and go blackberry picking. We had so much fun. And Little Miss H loved pointing out the…

Diono Quantum Travel System – the launch and first impressions

A mother standing in front of her sleeping baby in a teal Diono Quantum travel system and #adventureready in a beautiful park - #AdventureReady with the Diono Quantum travel system - the launch and first impressions - Mrs H's favourite things

Back at the beginning of June, I was invited to the launch of the fantastic Quantum. The new travel system designed by Diono. #AdventureReady with the Diono Quantum The launch I felt a mixture of nerves and excitement as I headed into London for the exclusive press party to celebrate the launch of the Quantum. I’d not been to this kind of event since my days at Cancer Research UK. So I really didn’t know what to expect. Thankfully, I’d…

The ugliness of depression

A black and white photograph of tall trees against a cloudy sky on the horizon - The Ugliness of Depression - Mrs H's favourite things

On Monday the singer Sinead O’Connor posted a heartbreaking video to her Facebook page. O’Connor films the footage in a grotty hotel in New Jersey. And in it she is clearly in the middle of a depressive episode. She is distraught. Beside herself. Her thoughts tumble into one another. And as you watch you can see and hear her heart break and her soul rip into thousands of tiny pieces. It is a horrid video to watch. Especially for someone,…

The sadness of not being able to breastfeed my babies – My breastfeeding story

A sepia tinted photograph of a newborn baby girl having skin to skin and lying in her Mummy's arms - The Sadness of Not Being Able to Breastfeed My Babies - Mrs H's favourite things

This week is World Breastfeeding Week 2017. A week dedicated to promoting, protecting and supporting breastfeeding. I agree with it wholeheartedly. But this week has made me sad. Because I still have issues about the fact that I was not able to breastfeed my babies. Little Miss H is now four years old. But even after all this time, I feel guilt that I was not able to breastfeed. And I feel a tug in my heart every time I…

Weaning wins with organic purées from the Goodness Gracious Food Company

A photograph of a 9 month old baby sitting who is in the process of Weaning, sitting in his highchair with a pouch of organic purée from Goodness Gracious Food Company in front of him - Weaning wins with organic purées from Goodness Gracious Food Company - Mrs H's favourite things

I remember finding weaning Little Miss H stressful. Even the thought of beginning the weaning journey sent me into a panic. Before we began to wean Little Miss I decided to do some research so that I actually knew what I was doing. I read books and I held an NCT led course on weaning in our house. At first, I gave Little Miss H finger food. But this was not popular. She often refused all the food that I…

Our week in Broadstairs

A photograph of a little girl playing in the shallows of the sea at Botany Bay in Broadstairs, Kent- Our Week in Broadstairs - Mrs H's favourite things

It is the first week of the Summer holidays and the weather has been hit and miss. But we’ve still managed to have fun. We’ve built dens, baked cookies, seen an open air performance of Alice through the looking glass,  visited a farm, played games and watched Peppa Pig. And of course, we went out in the rain for a walk in the woods behind our house. This led to the obligatory jumping in muddy puddles. That pig has a…

A day out at Dover Castle with the Quinny Zapp Flex Plus

A photograph of a mother standing in front of a wall in Dover Castle in Kent, her baby sits in front of her in the Quinny Zapp Flex Plus in Frost on Grey - A Day Out at Dover Castle with the Quinny Zapp Flex Plus - Mrs H's favourite things

Back in June we went on holiday to Broadstairs in Kent. We spent most of our days on the beach. But the weather forecaster was predicting that it would be overcast and cooler on the Wednesday. So we decided to take a day trip to Dover Castle. We packed up the car with everything we would need. And we made sure to include our Quinny Zapp Flex Plus which we had recently been sent by the lovely people at Quinny. The…

Baby of mine, now you are one

A photograph of a mother nuzzling her head into the top of her baby boy's head - on the occasion of her little boy's first birthday - Baby of Mine - Now You are One - Mrs H's favourite things

“Baby mine, don’t you cry. Baby mine, dry your eyes.  Rest your head close to my heart Never to part, Baby of mine.” Happy birthday, baby of mine. Today you turned one. Our second rainbow baby is growing up. This time last year I had just given birth. And you had already begun to fill our lives with huge bundles of love and joy. Earlier on in the day, Andy Murray had won Wimbledon. Little Miss H and I had…
