Be the light

A photograph of candles shining brightly in the darkness - Be the light - Mrs H's favourite things

"You can't control what happens in life but you can control your reaction to it." These words were written in a letter to me when I was in my early 20's and suffering terribly from depression. They were the very wise words of my wonderful Great Uncle David. In the past few days this phrase has been running through my mind. On Wednesday 9th November 2016, I woke up to a world that I didn't recognise.…

My rainbow baby featuring Mummy in Training

My Rainbow Baby is a blog series where I ask fellow bloggers to share the stories of their children born after baby loss. These babies are the rainbow that appears to brighten up the sky after the darkest storm - My Rainbow Baby Blog series featuring Mummy in Training - Mrs H's favourite things

Welcome to the very first post in the My rainbow baby blog series. I have created this series in the wish that it will give hope to anyone who has experienced baby loss. Little Miss H and Little Mister H are not the only rainbow babies. There are many of them. And I want to share the beautiful and poignant tales of these special rainbow babies. I am inviting others to tell these stories. To talk about these precious children in their own…

A perfect capsule wardrobe for kids with Vertbaudet

A faded photograph of a three month old baby boy wearing a white and navy breton jumper and a pair of jeans_includes the title "The perfect capsule wardrobe for kids with Vertbaudet"_Mrs H's favourite things

I started shopping at Vertbaudet when I was pregnant with Little Mister H. Their maternity clothes are stylish and practical and I lived in them during my pregnancy. There was one dress that I wore every week as I loved it so much. I have to admit that I am wearing it today. Almost four months after giving birth. It is just too comfy. And it looks perfect cinched in with a belt. While browsing the website for maternity wear it seemed…

Shopkins: Chef Club – review

A photograph of the DVD cover of SHOPKINS: CHEF CLUB_ a brightly coloured animation many characters from the show_SHOPKINS: CHEF CLUB - a review - Mrs H's favourite things

Little Miss H loves Shopkins. She first became interested in them after watching a number of YouTube videos of the toys being opened and played with. It is amazing how much enjoyment a three-year old can get from watching someone open a toy! She then moved on to watching the Shopkins animated webisodes which can be found on the Shopkins YouTube channel. If we let her then she would be very happy to watch these webisodes for hours. So when Universal contacted me…

My rainbow baby

A photograph of a wooden rainbow toy, some rainbow coloured confetti and three photos from a baby scan lying on a white baby blanket - My Rainbow Baby featuring Somewhere After the Ranbow _ Mrs H's favourite things

"A rainbow baby is a baby that is born following a miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death or infant loss. In the real world, a beautiful and bright rainbow follows a storm and gives hope of things getting better. The rainbow is more appreciated having just experienced the storm in comparison." Quotation taken from the Kicks Count website. Four years ago, I had never heard of the term rainbow baby. Now in October 2016, we have two beautiful rainbow babies. And they brighten…

An open letter to the woman who has just miscarried

A photograph of a park with a boating lake and lots of dappled sunshine and winter sun glares - An open letter to a woman who has just miscarried - Mrs H's favourite things

Dear friend It is traditional in these circumstances to say I am sorry for your loss. But those words seem empty and insulting. They imply that you have been careless and misplaced something valuable... a wallet, your keys, your phone. Those words don't convey that your world has come crashing down. They don't show that your heart is splintering into pieces. They don't speak of the shattering sobs that run through your whole body late at night. They don't tell of the emptiness that often manifests…

My Monthly Bucket List – October 2016

A faded photograph of a large pumpkin growing surrounded by leaves - with the title "My Monthly Bucket List - October 2016" - Mrs H's favourite things

October is one of my favourite months of the year. The skies are blue but the weather is cooler and there is an autumnal chill in the air. The leaves have started turning and falling in piles perfect for collecting and kicking. Yet, the woods behind our house are still dappled with green. My sandals have been packed away and the boots are out. It is too cold to go outside without a jacket but the winter coats, hats, gloves and scarfs…

We made Little Mister H – Introducing We Made Me

A faded photograph of a lady with brown hair standing in a park and wearing her snoozing baby in the Wuti Wrap from the brand We Made Me - includes the blog post title "We made Little Mister H" - Mrs H's favourite things

I fell in love with baby wearing when Little Miss H was six months old and I bought my first wrap. I soon became obsessed but I was sad that I hadn't known about the benefits of baby wearing earlier. As my pregnancy with Little Mister H progressed I became more and more excited by the idea of wearing a newborn. I couldn't wait to have our little bundle of squishiness all wrapped up next to me. Then a few months before…
