The Declaration of Motherhood

A photograph of a mother and her young daughter in wet weather gear paddling in the ocean - The Declaration of Motherhood - Mrs H's favourite things - a post about being a mother, about being equal and about supporting each other

I hold these truths to be self-evident that all mothers are created equal. Irrespective of the road you’ve travelled down to become a mother, you are endowed with certain undeniable rights, and these include not being judged, being supported and being allowed to parent as you see fit. That to secure these rights, you merely need to have the position of Mother. Whether your child was conceived naturally, through IVF, was adopted or fostered you are a mother and I’ve been…

The grief of baby loss

A photograph of a brunette lady looking into the distance and looking tearful, her eyes are misted over with tears - The Grief of Baby Loss - Mrs H's favourite things

Our first baby was due on 14th January 2013. Although, I struggle to remember the due dates for the other babies I’ll always remember the day that our first baby was due to enter our lives. Sadly, that little boy or girl was never meant to be ours to hold. At 11 weeks pregnant, we discovered that the baby was dead. Their heartbeat had stopped when I was 6 weeks pregnant. When the midwife told me that the baby didn’t…

Our Christmas Eve Box – what’s inside?

A photograph of a young woman pulling a funny face and holding up a basket which is her packed Christmas Eve box - it is filled with wrapped presents, soft toys, books and chocolate - Our Christmas Eve box - what's inside? - Mrs H's favourite things

A month before Little Miss H’s first Christmas, I read an article about giving a Christmas Eve box to your child. I immediately fell in love with the idea. It seemed the perfect festive treat to present your children with a box of Christmassy goodies the night before Christmas. However, I often struggle with inspiration for what to include in our box. And I’m sure that I’m not the only person. So I thought that I would share the contents of…

The sadness of not being able to breastfeed my babies – My breastfeeding story

A sepia tinted photograph of a newborn baby girl having skin to skin and lying in her Mummy's arms - The Sadness of Not Being Able to Breastfeed My Babies - Mrs H's favourite things

This week is World Breastfeeding Week 2017. A week dedicated to promoting, protecting and supporting breastfeeding. I agree with it wholeheartedly. But this week has made me sad. Because I still have issues about the fact that I was not able to breastfeed my babies. Little Miss H is now four years old. But even after all this time, I feel guilt that I was not able to breastfeed. And I feel a tug in my heart every time I…

Weaning wins with organic purées from the Goodness Gracious Food Company

A photograph of a 9 month old baby sitting who is in the process of Weaning, sitting in his highchair with a pouch of organic purée from Goodness Gracious Food Company in front of him - Weaning wins with organic purées from Goodness Gracious Food Company - Mrs H's favourite things

I remember finding weaning Little Miss H stressful. Even the thought of beginning the weaning journey sent me into a panic. Before we began to wean Little Miss I decided to do some research so that I actually knew what I was doing. I read books and I held an NCT led course on weaning in our house. At first, I gave Little Miss H finger food. But this was not popular. She often refused all the food that I…

Parenting lessons from bluebells

walking through the bluebell woods i learnt something about parenting and life. I learnt a valuable life lesson. Parenting lessons from bluebells - Mrs H's favourite things

How did you spend your May Day Bank Holiday? I spent it going through boxes and boxes of baby clothes. Tiny outfits that our little girl and boy wore when they were younger. The first sleepsuit that we dressed them in when they were born. The outfit they wore when we brought them home. The dungarees they were wearing when they met their grandparents. The party outfits that we bought for their Welcome to the World celebrations. Looking through these…
