For the Love of books – introducing Bookish Mamas

A photograph of a brunette lady holding a hardback copy of the book "Northern Lights" by Philip Pullman - She is peeking from the side of the book - For the Love of Books - Mrs H's favourite things

I love books. I always have. As a child, my books were one of my prized possessions. I once leant my friend my pristine and treasured Anne of Green Gables collection. Only for them to be returned dog-eared, torn and covered in tea stains. I was heartbroken. Snuggling down for an early night with a good book and a cup of tea is high up on my happy list. Life is always better when I’m lost in literature. I used to…

“Saying Goodbye” by Zoë Clark-Coates – A Review and Interview with the Author

A flat lay photograph of the book Saying Goodbye by Zoë Clark-Coates on a piece of blue felt surrounded by white rose petals and blue pom pom flowers - Saying Goodbye by Zoë Clark-Coates - A Review and Interview with the Author - Mrs H's favourite things

There were moments when I was reading Zoë Clark-Coates’ first book, Saying Goodbye when I felt like Zoë had captured all my emotions about our four miscarriages. There are words and feelings that I still struggle to vocalise. Yet, Saying Goodbye has managed to capture all of these emotions and so much more. For sadly Zoë Clark-Coates understands baby loss. In Saying Goodbye she shares her personal story of baby loss. And how she and her husband Andy faced the loss of five babies. Shocked by the lack of…

Little Miss H in Miffy’s world

A photograph of a mother and her two children settling down to a bedtime story of the Miffy book by Dick Bruna "Miffy at School" - the photograph shows a close up of one of the illustrations of Miffy in the book - Little Miss H in Miffy's World - Mrs H's favourite things

The Miffy books have always been favourites of ours. Miffy is now over 60 years old and is still looking good for her age. The famous little white rabbit was the invention of Dutch artist Dick Bruna, who sadly died earlier in 2017. And since her birth Miffy has been the subject of books, a TV series and a film. We recently received a bundle of Miffy goodies in the post to review. And so lately, we’ve been enjoying Miffy…

Our Book Advent 2015: A Parragon Book Buddies review

Now Little Miss H is here we have started a new tradition at Advent. Little Miss H adores books and so I love to present her with a book a day during Advent. Some of these books are new. But most are Christmas books that I have bought in previous years. Or books that we haven't looked at over the years. I love brown paper packages tied up with string. I wrap the books up in plain craft paper and use some…

A little girl wearing pink and navy, sits on a blanket in the garden and reads the book Pumpkins, Pumpkins Everywhere_with the post title "Pumpkins, Pumpkins Everywhere"_A Parragon Book Buddies Review_Mrs H's favourite things

I mentioned back in September that we are lucky enough to have been chosen as Parragon Book Buddies. This means that Little Miss H is sent a book every month to review. Recently, Little Miss H and I have been filled with colds and viruses. So sadly I did not manage to get the review for Pumpkins, Pumpkins Everywhere up in time for Halloween. Which is such a pity as this book would have been perfect for the spookiest day of…

I am back with my second vlog. Once again, I am taking part in Vlog Club and this month's prompt is to share my top five favourite books. It has been almost impossible to limit it to just five books.
