We are always informed of what foods we shouldn’t eat. Say goodbye to milk chocolate. Chuck out those takeaway menus. Leave those beers in the fridge. The list goes on. However, rarely are we told about the foods we should be eating. There are loads of tasty foods that are actually full of goodness. If you are looking for ways of managing your health effectively, read on to discover some of the best foods to consume.

7 Foods That Are Great For Your Health

1. Apples

Let’s begin with a fruit we all know and love, apples! Apples are filled to the brim with goodness. They are particularly beneficial for your skin and your gums, as they contain a quarter of your daily requirement of vitamin C. In addition to this, apples can help to lower blood cholesterol levels, as they contain pectin, a soluble fibre. All in all, this means that apples help to keep your digestive system healthy.

2. Lemons

The other fruit you should incorporate into your diet is lemon. Lemon is beneficial because it strengthens the bones and, similarly to apples, it contains a great amount of vitamin C. In addition to this, research shows that citrus flavonoids found in lemons can act as an anti-inflammatory and stop cancer cells from developing.

3. Salmon

Salmon is not only delicious but extremely great for managing your health as well! Why? Well, firstly salmon contains approximately half of your daily dose of niacin. This can protect against memory loss and Alzheimer’s disease. Moreover, it is a fantastic source of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids boost so many benefits. Did you know that they can assist with hearing health? Combine a healthy diet with regular trips to an audiologist and you have the best combination for preventing hearing loss. These have also been linked to reducing the risk of cancer, heart disease, and depression.

4. Garlic

Aside from the foods that have already been mentioned, garlic is another good option to go for. One of the reasons why is because garlic contains a compound called allicin. This is believed to lower blood pressure levels and cholesterol whilst acting as an anti-inflammatory as well. Moreover, garlic is very powerful when it comes to fighting diseases as it can inhibit the growth of bacteria, such as E. coli.

5. Dark Chocolate

Who doesn’t love to indulge in a bit of chocolate now and again? Well, the good news is, you can! Dark chocolate is full of goodness and has a lot of positive benefits when consumed in moderation. It is rich in flavonoids that have been shown to increase good HDL levels and reduce bad LDL cholesterol. Moreover, it can reduce blood pressure levels as well.

6. Spinach

This article would not be complete without adding at least one green vegetable to the mix. Spinach is an excellent option to go for. Studies have shown that it is one of the most effective cancer-fighting veggies. If that wasn’t enough, it can help improve eye health. This is because it contains immune-boosting antioxidants known as zeaxanthin and lutein.

7. Walnuts

Last but not least, the final food on the list is walnuts. Walnuts are beneficial since they assist in the reduction of cholesterol, as they contain the most omega-3 fatty acids out of all nuts. Omega-3 fatty acids are extremely beneficial when reducing the risk of cancer and improving your mood.
