Last week, Little Mister H and I headed into London for a very exciting event. Baby Dove had invited us to attend a private swimming lesson with Water Babies. We were also going to learn how to protect your baby’s delicate skin when you take them swimming.
Baby Swimming Skin Care with Baby Dove
I never really took Little Miss H swimming when she was a baby and toddler. But Little Mister H is a real water baby and I regularly take him to our local swimming pool for a splash around. He really loves it and I enjoy being able to bond with him while we have fun in the water.
However, Little Mister H has very sensitive skin that has been very dry since he had chicken pox just before Christmas. And I worry about it reacting to the chlorine and disinfectants that are used in the swimming pool. So I was really interested to hear what Baby Dove would say about how to protect your little one’s delicate skin when you take them swimming.
Parenting Your Way With Baby Dove
The morning started off with a talk from the writer and broadcaster, Liz Fraser. Liz is a mother of 4. She has 3 teenagers and has recently become a mother for the fourth time. Liz really understands what it’s like to be a mum. And she knows how confusing it can be to be bombarded with contradicting advice.

As a parent, you just want to do what is right for your child. But it’s almost impossible to know the right action to take when parenting advice changes frequently. Thankfully Baby Dove understand that the best way to parent for your child is your way. And they are here to help you on the exciting, but somewhat daunting, journey of parenthood.
The Science Behind Baby Dove
Baby Dove have brought their skin expertise to create a range of products that are specifically designed for your baby’s sensitive skin. At the event, we were honoured to hear from one of the researchers who can genuinely say that Baby Dove is her baby. She was clearly passionate about creating products that you can trust are safe for your baby’s delicate skin.
She explained that baby skin is very different to adult skin. It loses water faster, is thinner and more sensitive. It also has a more acidic pH than adult skin which makes it extremely fragile. Baby Dove has been designed with these differences in mind. And the best way to care for your baby’s skin is to use a product that has been developed for their sensitive skin, such as Baby Dove.
We were also shown a little experiment that highlighted the difference between a normal bar of soap and the Baby Dove Baby Bar. Little ducks made of cornstarch, which is a similar pH to baby’s skin were placed on a normal soap and the Baby Dove Baby Bar. They were then sprayed with water.
After an hour, the cornstarch duck on the normal bar of soap had completely dissolved and disintegrated. But the little duck on the Baby Dove Baby Bar had kept its shape. It had even become darker in colour as it had soaked up the moisturiser inside the Baby Bar.
Baby Swimming Skincare
After learning about the science behind Baby Dove, I was keen to learn about how I could protect Little Mister H’s delicate and dry skin during our swimming lesson with Water Babies. You can learn more about caring for your baby’s skin when you take them swimming in this useful section of the Baby Dove website. But it’s important to remember these four stages of baby swimming skincare:
1. Gently rinse your baby before taking them into the swimming pool.
2. If the swimming pool allows, then massage in a moisturiser before the swim. Baby Dove’s Sensitive Moisture Fragrance Free Lotion is ideal.
3. After swimming, rinse your baby’s skin in non-chlorinated water using a baby shampoo.
4. Before getting your baby dressed, apply a lotion.
Our swimming lesson with Water Babies
Once I’d learned about looking after Little Mister H’s delicate skin when swimming, he and I were very keen to get in the swimming pool. We were being treated to a swimming lesson with Water Babies. Little Mister H and I go swimming regularly but he’s never had a proper swimming lesson. So I was intrigued to see whether he would enjoy it.
Little Mister H loved his first swimming lesson. And I adored seeing his smiley and happy face. His favourite moments were Humpty Dumpty and surfing in the water. He really is a water baby and I now need to contact Water Babies to book him onto some lessons.
The swimming lesson was made more enjoyable because I didn’t have to worry about his skin drying out or reacting after being in the pool. As soon as we got out of the water, we headed to the warm showers and I gave Little Mister H a wash with Sensitive Moisture Fragrance Free Head to Toe Body Wash. I then treated Little Mister H to a massage with Baby Dove’s Sensitive Moisture Fragrance Free Lotion. And then we headed to the changing rooms to get dressed and go home.
Thank you so much to Baby Dove for such a wonderful morning. Little Mister H and I had a fabulous time. And it was great to learn how I can protect his delicate skin when I take him swimming. Thank you also to Water Babies for the brilliant swimming lesson.
As we left to head home, Little Mister H fell asleep in his buggy. He woke up three hours later. Proof of an absolutely fantastic morning.
We were invited to this special event by Baby Dove. But as always all words and opinions are my own and 100% honest.
