Little Mister H was 10 weeks old yesterday. And 10 days ago, he turned two months old.
The newborn baby days are behind us. Little Mister H is now a very active and alert baby. He loves to smile and happily gurgles away whilst lying on his playmat. He makes the cutest noises and it sounds like he is trying to talk to us.
We have definitely settled into life as a family of 4. And it feels like Little Mister H was always meant to be a part of our lives.
I love watching Little Mister H develop and change. But my baby boy is growing up and this makes me sad and happy all at the same time.
But thanks to this blog I will remember those first newborn cuddles. The first meeting between brother and sister. The first night at home sleeping in a bednest next to Mummy and Daddy. The first smile. The first “coo”!
And there are so many more firsts still to come. I hope that you will allow me to share them with you in these monthly updates.
Little Mister H at two months old
The past month
The big thing this month was Little Miss H going to pre-school for the first time.
At the moment, she is only going for 9 hours a week. But next term, she will start to go for the full 15 hours.
As much as I miss Little Miss H when she is at pre-school, I do love the time I get to spend alone with her brother. Normally Little Mister H doesn’t get much extra attention. He tends to have to fit in to a routine which revolves around his demanding sister. So it is nice that I get to spend some time where I can concentrate on my baby boy.
Once Little Miss is attending her full hours at nursery, I plan to sign Little Mister H up for some classes. As always, I am finding it hard to choose which one to attend. I would like to take him to Baby Sensory as I loved taking Little Miss H to those classes. But I also love the sound of Mummy and Baby Yoga. Decisions, decisions, decisions!
Over the past few weeks, we have seen friends and family. And there have been many times when Little Mister H has been held by Mummy while Little Miss plays with her friends at a play date.
We have also had a few family trips out. We have visited Wilderness Wood, Penshurst Place, Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest as well as going for some walks in the woods behind our house. None of these places are particularly pushchair friendly but thankfully Little Mister H loves being wrapped in his Wuti Wrap by We Made Me.
As I mentioned in the one month update due to problems with breast feeding Little Mister H is being exclusively formula fed.
We are feeding him on demand (as you would a breast fed baby) when we notice his feeding cues. As such, it is hard to gauge exactly how much he is eating.
But at each feed he is devouring a bottle of 6 fl oz of formula. And he probably has a feed every 3/4 hours.
He certainly seems to be eating enough as he is very solid. He is my adorable little chunky monkey.
Little Mister H has suffered from mild colic over the past month. However, we are fortunate as he doesn’t suffer every night and some nights it is only for an hour or so.
On the night’s when his colic is bad he will start to get agitated at about 16.30. Just as I am thinking about putting the toys away, tidying up and making Little Miss H’s dinner. At these times he just wants to be held. So I wrap him in my Wuti Wrap as it is the only way I can hold him, make dinner and put Little Miss H to bed.
There have been one or two bedtimes that I would prefer to forget. On these evenings, I haven’t been able to settle a screaming Little Mister H. And Little Miss has begun to cry and get upset because I have struggled to read her bedtime stories and tuck her up.
Thankfully the colic does seem to be easing and Little Mister H is becoming one relaxed baby.
He is sleeping brilliantly.
He naps nicely throughout the day. He either has lots of power naps or he has one epic nap of 4 or 5 hours.
He has also slept through the night a number of times. Sleeping from 22.00 until 06.00. Even if he doesn’t sleep through he only ever needs one feed at about 04.30 or 05.00.
We have recently put him down awake for naps and at night and he has settled himself. In fact, just now I put him into his carry cot for the night. His eyes were wide open and he was staring at me. But within 5 minutes he was fast asleep.
Little Mister H is thriving. He was weighed and measured last week at his belated 8 week check up.
He has been on the 50th centile for weight since he was born. He is still there but he is edging nearer the 75th centile. And he is just under the 90th centile for height.
At the moment he weighs slightly more and is 1 cm shorter than his sister was at the same age.
Little Mister H’s hair is still fair. It is very fine but there is more of it than there was. His eyebrows are still pale but his eyelashes are darker. And his eyes are the most beautiful shade of blue.
We have reached my favourite milestone – the first smile.
Little Mister H first smiled a few days before he was 6 weeks old. And now when smiles his whole face lights up with happiness. It is gorgeous.
He also loves to gurgle and coo. And he often responds to our questions with one of his funny and adorable little noises.
He is more active than he was last month. He loves to kick his legs and wave his little arms in the air. He has also started to grab at things and he often holds on to my top or necklace when I’m feeding him.
Little Mister H also has a huge number of facial expressions. He is one expressive baby. And he likes to pose for the camera and model for Mummy.
Next month’s update is only a few weeks away.
By then our baby boy would have been with us for a third of a year. I don’t know what milestones a baby is meant to reach by 3 months old. So my mission during the next few weeks is to research that.
Do you know which milestones Little Mister H should be hitting over the next month? I would love to hear about them in the comments.
