Little Mister H is actually nearer five months old then four months old. But last week was one of those weeks. As a result, my blog was forgotten about and Little Mister H’s four-month update is very late.
Little Mister H at four and a half months old
The past month or so
The past month or so have been pretty darn busy. We have actually had 3 mini holidays. Which have been lovely.
In October, we went to Dorset for a couple of days. We stayed in a cottage on a working farm and had a lovely long weekend in the countryside. It was Little Mister H’s first holiday and he got to see the sea for the first time.
During half term Little Miss, Little Mister and I went to stay with my parents. Little Miss H and Little Mister H were spoilt rotten. And Little Mister H discovered that he loves to nap snuggled up on his Grandpa’s shoulder (much like his mother did many moons ago).
We then went to stay for a few days at Bluestone National Park Resort which was fantastic. Little Mister H was as good as gold during the two 6 hour journeys. And we could have easily forgotten that we had a four-month old baby in the back of our car.
During the past month we have also taken Little Mister H on his first trip to London Zoo, (He slept most of the time), for a wintry and blustery walk along Camber Sands (he slept most of the time) and to see the dinosaurs and the blue whale at the Natural History Museum (he slept most of the time).
Little Mister H is always so good on these day trips. He is a very chilled out and relaxed baby. He is rarely any trouble. And if he does have a cry or a moan it is normally because he is hungry or needs to nap.
Little Mister H is continuing to eat really well. He is a milk monster, like his big sister.
He takes roughly 5 bottles of 7 fl oz of formula a day. He has his last bottle about 22:30 and then sleeps until 06:30, when he wakes up desperate for food.
He has become a little more sickly over the past month. There seems to be a lot more spit up. This is probably due to the fact that he has started teething and has an excess amount of dribble.
He has begun to look longingly at the food that we eat. But I have no massive plans to start weaning until he is six months old. I hated weaning Little Miss H and found the whole thing very stressful. So I am not in any rush to start it.
I also would love to do another baby first aid course before we start weaning. As knowing how to cope if Little Mister H chokes will relax me when it comes to introducing solids.
Little Mister H did suffer from mild colic. But that seems to have disappeared over the past month.
He still doesn’t have any routine. As the second child, he has to fit in with whatever Little Miss H is doing. So he has to be awake and fed in time for pre-school drop off and pick up.
He also doesn’t have any bedtime routine. He still stays downstairs with us until we go to bed. And I very selfishly love having sleepy cuddles with him in the evening.
However, over the past few weeks he has started settling earlier in the evening. So it might be worth thinking about establishing some form of bedtime routine. Little Miss H goes to bed between 18:30 and 19:00 most evenings. We could easily do Little Mister H’s bedtime routine after that.
Little Mister H still naps well through the day. He likes to have one epic nap (which is normally mid morning) and a few shorter naps during the day. He will happily fall asleep on his own and he doesn’t often need to be fed or rocked to sleep.
We are very lucky to be blessed with a good sleeper. It has made the transition to having 2 children much easier than I expected. However, Little Miss H slept terribly until the beginning of this year and so I feel we were owed one child that sleeps.
I haven’t had Little Mister H weighed since his 8 week check up. I can tell that he is putting on weight so I am not worried.
He is now in 3-6 month clothes and I have packed away the majority of his newborn and 0-3 months clothing. I was very sad folding up his little clothes and I may have shed the odd tear when I was storing away some of our favourite outfits. He has also moved up a size in nappies. And he now wears size 2.
I still can’t tell whether Little Mister H is going to have blonde, brown or auburn hair. It looks different colours in different lights. However, it is getting longer and there does seem to be more of it than there was.
Little Mister H’s eyes are just beautiful. I could lose myself in them all day. And they are absolutely magical when he smiles. He smiles with his eyes and his whole face lights up with joy when he is happy.
This month Little Mister H has been hitting milestones left, right and centre.
He is now giggling. Little Miss H can easily make him laugh. But Little Mister only giggles for Mummy and Daddy if we are hysterically funny, tickle his tummy or give him a massage.
At first Little Mister H rolled from his back to his front. But now he can roll both ways and is able to travel across the living room. He often falls asleep on his side or on his tummy.
3. Hello hands
In the past month, he has discovered his hands. He can now grab intentionally and hold things. His hands are permanently in his mouth. And when he is tired he will rub his eyes (so cute).
Little Mister H is very talkative. He regularly gurgles away. And he makes a new sound every day.
5. Sitting supported
Little Mister H will quite happily sit propped up by some cushions or on the sofa.
Next month’s update is only a few weeks away. I hope that you will pop back to see how Little Mister H is getting on.
PS. There are still a number of posts from my pregnancy and Little Mister H’s birth that I have not got around to writing. I hope that you will forgive me if I publish them over the next weeks or months.
