Before I was a Mummy, I wore a wide variety of clothes. I loved to wear a smart dress with opaque tights and heels to work. But now I’m a mum those clothes aren’t practical and lurk in my wardrobe unloved and unworn. My mummy style isn’t one that I’m particularly happy with. It consists mainly of jeans and t-shirts. It isn’t very stylish and it can look frumpy.
When JD Williams contacted me and asked me to review some clothes from their autumn/ winter collection, I decided to pick items that were out of my fashion comfort zone. Clothes that I wouldn’t normally wear but that I’ve always liked the look of.
Also, as Mr H and I recently had a weekend away without the kids I thought it would be the perfect time to showcase my new mummy style. To put the clothes to the test. And to be a model for a while (not something that comes naturally and that involved much laughter).
Finding my Mummy Style with JD Williams
Autumn is my favourite season. I love the colours. The grass is still green but is contrasted against the golden russet shades of the turning leaves. The weather hasn’t yet developed its winter chill. And there are still days when the sky is blue and the sun shines.
I also love the fashions of this season. Warm and cosy knitwear, skinny jeans, boots and a light jacket are the perfect mummy style for autumn. And they’re the clothes that I love to wear on the days when crunchy leaves litter the ground and the world has a golden hue.
So when JD Williams asked me to choose some clothes from their Autumn/ Winter collection, I knew that I’d pick an outfit that would tick all my mummy style boxes. But I also wanted to be a little braver than normal.
I decided to choose an outfit that would go with a pair of dark grey skinny jeans that I’d recently bought. Firstly, I chose this Ruffle Sleeve Value Jumper in Dusk Blue (£16.00) from JD Williams’ knitwear collection. A black Jersey Biker Jacket (£28.00) was added to this. I’ve always loved the look of biker jackets but have never been brave enough to buy one before. This Jersey Biker Jacket seemed like the perfect way of introducing a biker jacket to my wardrobe.
I finished off the outfit with a perfect pair of grey boots (£32.00). I’ve been looking for a pair of grey boots for ages. But I’ve never been able to find the right pair. But I fell in love with these ankle boots from Heavenly Soles the moment I saw them on the JD Williams website. And they are the ideal boots to wear on strolls through the countryside on an autumnal day.
Finding my Mummy Style with …
… A Ruffle Sleeved Jumper
I never quite believed that I would be able to pull off a ruffle sleeved jumper. And when I tried this jumper for the first time I did wonder if the ruffles were a little too big.
But no! If you’re going to wear ruffles on your sleeves then you should WEAR ruffles on your sleeves.
Go big or go home!
And I do love this jumper. It fits well and the colour is gorgeous. Plus, it’s super soft, warm and cosy. As the days get colder and colder, I find myself reaching for it more and more as I know it will keep out the chill.
As for the ruffles? Well, it’s the ruffles that make this jumper. They really are fabulous. They sit in a perfect position on the sleeve and as a result are a brilliant camouflage for bingo wings. And they just jazz up the whole outfit. I think it’s fair to say that I’m now a huge ruffle fan.
… A Jersey Biker Jacket
As I mentioned above, I’ve wanted a biker jacket for a while. But I was worried that it wouldn’t suit me. That I would just look silly.
When I saw this black Jersey Biker Jacket on the JD Williams website, I thought that it would be the perfect introduction to the biker jacket.
My first biker jacket.
And if this jacket is anything to go by, then I think in future my mummy style will include some more biker jackets.
This jacket fits perfectly. It sits nicely on the waist and is lovely and fitted when done up. The jacket just falls nicely and is a really nice shape. This is due to the good quality jersey material. I like to wear my jacket with skinny jeans, boots and a top. But it would look equally fab when worn with a dress and heels.
… A pair of Grey Chelsea Boots
Chelsea Boots are a classic. They’re just the ideal boot for Autumn and Winter. As they are hardy and robust enough to cope with long walks and muddy terrain. But they are also stylish and look cute when paired with jeans or thick opaque tights and a floaty dress.
Yet, black Chelsea boots seem so 2016! I’m all for the GREY Chelsea boot. Grey is no longer a boring and dingy colour. Instead, it is super stylish and more importantly, it goes with EVERYTHING.
And these grey boots from Heavenly Soles are divine and this is why:
1. They’re super comfy.
2. They’re sturdy and really well made.
3. They’ve got a cute printed detail on the heel.
4. The soft grey colour.
5. The small heel that gives a little bit of height without making the boots impractical.
6. The all-around elasticated panel and pull on tabs which makes the boots easy to get on and off.
These are just such lovely boots and they really help finish off this outfit.
The boots, jacket and jumper are not items of clothing I would have considered wearing before. I’m not that brave with clothes. I tend to stick with what I know. But I’m so glad that I stepped out of my comfort zone and found a different side to my mummy style.
What do you think? Do you tend to wear the same clothes every day or are you more adventurous in your style? Don’t you just love the ruffle sleeved jumper?
This is a collaborative postt. These clothes were sent to me for free from JD Williams for the purpose of this post. But as always I have written honestly and all thoughts and images are my own.
