A month before Little Miss H’s first Christmas, I read an article about giving a Christmas Eve box to your child. I immediately fell in love with the idea. It seemed the perfect festive treat to present your children with a box of Christmassy goodies the night before Christmas.
However, I often struggle with inspiration for what to include in our box. And I’m sure that I’m not the only person. So I thought that I would share the contents of Little Miss H and Little Mister’s Christmas Eve box in the hope that it might inspire some of you.
I’ve also produced a vlog showing all the items in our Christmas Eve box. And you can watch that here. (Please remember to subscribe to my YouTube channel and give the video a thumbs up):
Our Christmas Eve Box 2017
The contents of our Christmas Eve box are very traditional. They include new PJs, special outfits for Christmas Day and a copy of The Night Before Christmas. I also like to include some extra festive treats – yummy chocolates, a festive DVD (or two) and some soft toys.
This may sound like an added expense at Christmas. But I only include items in the Christmas Eve box that we would have given to Little Miss and Little Mister H anyway. It just means that they get fewer presents from Santa Claus.

The beautiful nightie from Mini Boden that is included in our Christmas Eve box.
I also include items that I’ve bought cheaply or that we already own. So they receive the same copy of The Night Before Christmas every year. I make reindeer food from porridge oats and glitter (which we leave for the reindeer in a bowl as sprinkling it outside on the ground is dangerous for birds). And I add some DVDs that they haven’t watched for a while.
The actual box that I use as Christmas Eve hamper is a cheap white plastic storage box. And I make it more festive by adding a blue ribbon and wrapping a few of the gifts inside.
What’s inside?
Something snuggly to sleep in on Christmas Eve
This year I managed to get some gorgeous nightwear for both Little Mister H and Little Miss in the Black Friday sales.
Little Miss H loves nighties (or sleepy gowns as she calls them). So I knew I had to buy this lovely nightie from Mini Boden. It is pale pink and covered in dancing Christmas angels. It couldn’t be more perfect.
I fell in love with this babygrow from Frugi as soon as I saw it. Little Mister H is going to look so cute in it. I adore the colours and the wintery polar bear print.
Something snazzy to wear on Christmas Day
As a child, I would always wear my prettiest dress on Christmas Day. It was a way to make the day extra special. This is a tradition that I have continued with my children. I like to buy Little Miss H a pretty party dress and Little Mister H a Christmas jumper that then goes inside their Christmas Eve box.
This year Little Miss H’s dress is this frothy and fairy-like creation from H&M. I just know that she is going to adore it. You can also get this dress in festive red.
Little Mister H’s Christmas jumper is from M&S and features a very cute polar bear. I adore the colour and I can’t wait to see my handsome little boy modelling this jumper on Christmas Day.
Something yummy to eat
When the weather is cold and the Christmas tree lights are twinkling all I want to do is snuggle on the sofa and drink hot chocolate and watch Christmas movies. Little Miss H and Little Mister H are also huge fans of hot chocolate. So when I saw a chocolate trader at the Wealden Midwinter Fair selling hot chocolate spoons and adorable mini snowmen I knew I had to buy them for our Christmas Eve box.
Something funny to watch snuggled on the sofa
We’ll need something to watch while we are snuggled on the sofa drinking our hot chocolate. So I’ve included a copy of the new Trolls Holiday*.
Little Miss H was recently sent a copy of Trolls Holiday and some other trolls goodies. This new DVD from the creators of Trolls features all of Little Miss H’s favourite characters. Little Miss H is a huge fan of Princess Poppy and her friends and I know that she’ll love drinking hot chocolate, cuddling on the sofa and watching Trolls Holiday.
Something cute to cuddle at night
Both my children adore soft toys. They like to take something cuddly to bed with them at night. Therefore I try to include some Christmas soft toys in their Christmas Eve box. We were sent these gorgeous collector’s edition Itty Bittys from Hallmark* to include in this year’s box.
Itty Bittys were inspired by a sketch by Adan Chung who drew how his favourite characters would look if they were itty bittier. These cute and soft cuddly toys come in a variety of ranges and many iconic characters have been turned Itty Bitty! The various collections include Wizard of Oz, Marvel, Super Hero Girls and Star Wars. They are all very cute.
But Santa Mickey and Minnie Claus
are especially gorgeous. They are the perfect addition to our Christmas Eve box and I’m sure that they’ll be given lots of love from Little Miss H and Little Mister H.
Something traditional to read the night before Christmas
Lastly, I add the children’s stockings for them to lay out for Santa Claus. And the final touch is a copy of The Night before Christmas that I bought when Little Miss H was a baby.
Do you put together a Christmas Eve box for your family? What do you include? I’d love to hear in the comments.
Hugs
