Finding Happiness Motherhood

A Family Update

First of all, I want to say that this is NOT a pregnancy announcement. But as I sit here watching England win the Cricket World Cup (amazing), I realised that I haven’t given you an update about what is happening in our family in forever.

I thought I would give you a little update and (if I can remember) I will try and do this every few months. So this is what is currently happening and what has happened in our family over the past few months.

A Family Update

The Family

We seem to have been so busy in the past few months. We had Little Miss H’s birthday in May. She had a party at Clip ‘n’ Climb. Then Little Miss H, Auntie Bonnie and I went to Elderflower Fields Festival (you can read all about the festival in my festival diary here).

We also went for a weekend at Alton Towers. We were gifted this trip as part of our role as Konfidence Swimologist Ambassadors. During our time there, we spent a whole morning at Alton Towers’ water park Splash Landings and we were able to put our Konfidence gear through its paces. A full review of the Konfidence products we used at Splash Landings will be live next week.

More recently, we have had Mr H’s and Little Mister H’s birthdays. We celebrated Little Mister H’s 3rd birthday with a trip to the beach at Camber Sands and the National Trust property Bodiam Castle.

Mr H

Mr H would probably say that he spent most of the past few weekends driving. He drove us the five hours to Alton Towers and back. He then drove us to my parents’ house in Hertfordshire where we deposited the children and then drove to Leamington Spa to see my psychiatrist. We were in Leamington Spa for a few hours and then drove back again. Then the next day, once the kids were exhausted from spending time in the paddling pool and visiting the park with Grandma and Grandpa, we drove home.

We also went to London to celebrate Mr H’s 40th birthday. Unfortunately, we had an absolutely awful meal at the Aqua Shard. The service was awful and rude and the food was disgusting. Mr H had a burger that was dry and that he left most of. And I had a sirloin steak with the trimmings. My Yorkshire pudding was burnt, I couldn’t cut through my roast potatoes and my sirloin steak had a rim of unrendered fat an inch thick. It was so upsetting. We’d been looking forward to this special meal and so we were really disappointed that it was such a let down.

Luckily, the day got better because we went to see Spiderman: Far From Home. A great film and it really cheered us up after the lousy meal.

Apart from that, Mr H is well and as lovely as always. He has been working hard recently. But we’ve also managed to have some wonderful family times at the weekend.

Me

A few weeks ago, Mr H drove me to Leamington Spa to see my psychiatrist. These appointments are always quite brutal as he doesn’t pull any punches. So I am always very anxious before them and worry about what he is going to say.

But on this occasion, I needn’t have worried. He was pleased that I was well. And he kept on describing me as bright. In the end, he took me off one of the six tablets I take daily and reduced another. This is great news and is the first time in a year that I’ve seen my psychiatrist and not had my anti-depressants etc put up. And since my medication has been reduced I’ve felt really good with only the odd wobble. So I’m pretty bloody proud of myself.

Little Miss H

Little Miss H has had a busy summer term. She has had sport’s day, school trips to a local church and to Drusillas Park to meet the penguins her class sponsors (named Chilli and Monster Munch) and had her drama class production.

Then last week, Little Miss H did her transition session in Year 2. I can’t believe that she is going to be in Year 2 next year. It only seems like a week ago that she started in Reception. But in September, she is starting her final year in Key Stage 1. I know she’ll love it. She adores school and is doing so well. Her reading is excellent. And I hope that her new teacher encourages her to grow as a human and develop a greater love of learning.

Sadly today hasn’t been a great day for Little Mister H as he has been sick a number of times. It is such a shame as we were planning on having a mini and belated birthday celebration with some friends. But that had to be cancelled. He is sleeping now and I hope he feels better in the morning.

He had a wonderful birthday. We gave him a balance bike and he received many dinosaur themed presents. He does love his dinosaurs.

On his actual birthday, Mr H had the day off work and we took him to the beach and to a castle. Although the beach was cold, we built some sandcastles (which Little Mister loved knocking down) and had a stroll. Then the castle we visited was stunning and Little Mister H loved running around the ruins.

Now he is three, Little Mister H will be going to pre-school in September. It is going to be good for both of us. Little Mister H is ready for pre-school and he needs the discipline and structure of the nursery environment. I’m looking forward to having 15 hours a week when I can concentrate on myself and this blog. He had a settling in session last week and loved it. Since then he has been asking when he is going back. And he made some lovely new friends there and was very excited to find a whole box full of dinosaur toys.

So that is how our family is getting on at the moment. I do hope you enjoyed this little catch-up. I just thought that it would be good to let you know what we’ve been up to.

Hugs

Lucy
