Love The Little Things – Week 4

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

I am so pleased with myself. I have actually managed to write this weeks’ Love the Little Things post on a Friday. I hope Morgana at But why mummy why will be proud of me.

Without further ado here are my #littleloves from the past week:

A number of my yummy mummy friends are reading the book “Toddler Calm”. After all their recommendations, I decided to download it onto my Kindle. I’ve only managed to read a few chapters but I think it is going to be a great help. It will give me a real insight into how I can guide Little Miss H through her toddler years.

I am thrilled that “The Great British Bake Off” has started again. I love this programme. I have a girl crush on Mel and Sue. They rock.
They must know every baking related double entendre going.
My favourite quotation from the first episode was from Sue Perkins: “To be commended on your nuts by Mary Berry, it’s a great day.” Hilarious.

I used to wear a full face of make-up to work everyday. I always felt more confident and more in control if I was made up. It was my armour. It was how I faced the outside world. I liked to look put together.

Having a baby, has made me feel more confident in my own skin. I still wear a little bit of make-up everyday (I don’t want to scare small children – including my own). Now I stick to CC Cream, a slick of mascara, some under eye concealer and eye-brow pencil (to define my over-plucked eyebrows). It means that I look decent and can get out the door in 5 minutes. Always a bonus when you have a toddler.

I heard a couple of Iron and Wine songs in a local coffee shop this week. I discovered Iron and Wine when I purchased the “Twilight” soundtrack (Please don’t judge me).

Their song “Flightless bird, American mouth” is the track that Edward and Bella dance to in the gazebo at the prom. It is a beautiful song but my favourite is “Naked as we came” from their album “Our endless numbered days”:

I made blueberry pancakes for breakfast this morning. I may have made too many for the two of us. But they were yummy! And I am sure that the blueberries made them healthy.

Yummy pancakes for breakfast on a Friday morning.

And lastly

Little Miss H and I have had quite a lazy week. We’ve enjoyed long lunches together and playtime in the parks of Rochester. I’ve also loved our many afternoon naps and cuddles on the sofa. She is growing up too quickly and I am going to treasure every moment with her.

What have you been up to this week? What have been the little things that have made this week special?

Mrs H

PS Please go and have a look at all the other #littleloves post over at But Why Mummy Why. I promise you that you won’t regret it.

Hi Sharon. Lovely to see you here! I think the GBBO love is universal. I hear that “The Extra Slice”, Jo Brand’s show on Friday is hysterical. I might have to catch it on I-Player. I wish I had Mary Berry as my personal cook. That would be fantastic. but very bad for my waistline. Who do you think will win? Hopefully we’ll see you again soon. Hugs Mrs H xxxx

I was never much of a make-up person before Gwenn (more of a hair girl!) but now, like you, I’ve had to streamline totally. Most days I just use MAC Extended Play mascara and lip balm.

Hello lovely. Thanks for visiting my little corner of the blogging world. I used to love doing my hair too. I tried to do a different hairstyle every day (this was normally some form of plait, bun or ponytail). That has all gone out the window too. I am lucky if I get to dry my hair or even brush it. Would you recommend MAC Extended Play mascara? I am always looking for make-up recommendations! Have a fantabulous week and I hope to see you soon. Hugs Mrs H xxxx

I find those mega thickening mascaras don’t work for me because I don’t have very long eyelashes and everything just goes clumpy. Extended Play is more of a lengthening thing and fairly subtle. Depends what kind of look you’re after I suppose!! xx

I don’t like clumpy at all. I like subtle and lengthening. It can’t hurt to try it. I might have to purchase. Fab! I love a make-up purchase.

Hi Mrs. H, lovely post – your blueberry pancakes look delicious! I love anything with blueberries in it! I’m really happy that GBBO is back. If you like baking you should enter the Great Bloggers Bake Off over at I’m thinking of entering something for next week – could be fun 🙂

BTW – I actually managed to post my #littleloves this Friday too for a change, I was very proud! haha

Hello lovely Blogamooma. Thanks for stopping by and thanks for your words of praise. You are too nice. The pancakes were yummy and the perfect way to start a Friday. That bake off link sounds fun. I might have to try it. I do love baking but haven’t done it for a while as I was trying to lose weight for my friend’s wedding. That is now over – so I can eat my bodyweight in cake. Yay! Have a lovely week. Hugs Mrs H xxxx PS I am very proud of both of us for linking up on the Friday. Fingers crossed we manage it this week too. xxxx

A lovely idea for a post. I used to do the Warpaint thing too but now use highlighter (the make up kind of course, not a neon yellow pen) and moisturiser. I think growing older helps you feel a bit more confident in yourself. Yummy looking pancakes too xxx #weekendbloghop

Hi Leigh. Thanks for your lovely comment. I totally agree about being more comfortable with myself as I’ve got older. I’ve been much happier in my own skin in my 30s. In my 20s I was always comparing myself to others and falling short. Now, as long as I am happy and my husband tells me I am pretty every now and then – that is good enough for me! Have a fabulous week. Hugs Mrs H xxxx

What a lovely linky, thank you for introducing me to it. I have bookmarked it for the future. Sounds like you had a lovely week.
Flightless Bird, American Mouth is one of my favourite songs and not because of the film, although I do love those films too lol. #weekendbloghop

Hi Katie. Thanks for stopping by. It is lovely to see you. It is such a great linky. I really enjoy joining up with it and reading the other posts. I’m glad that I am not the only person who thinks that Flightless Bird, American Mouth is a gorgeous song. Have you listened to the lyrics though? They make no sense at all. I also love the books and film. Have a grand week and I hope to see you at #littleloves on Friday. Hugs Mrs H xxxx
