Christmas is such a magical time for children, but until this year Little Miss H has always been too young to fully appreciate the magic. But she is now four and a half years old and can’t wait for Christmas. In fact, most days we hear
“Mummy… Daddy… How many more sleeps until Christmas?”
Over the years we’ve created a number of family Christmas traditions. Advent is filled with daily Christmassy activities and the kids also receive a book every day (often these are old books that they haven’t read for a while). And we spend a weekend buying a Christmas tree, decorating the house and gorging on Christmas food. Then on Christmas Eve, we present the children with a hamper of goodies. Their Christmas Eve Hamper includes new PJs, DVDs, books, hot chocolate, yummy food and a cuddly toy each.
These Christmas traditions are wonderful and really add to the magic of the season. But I still want to find more ways to make each year more memorable and special. That is why I was thrilled when Flitterbee offered to send us one of their Christmas Elf Door’s to review on the blog.
Flitterbee’s Opening Christmas Elf Door

Flitterbee make beautiful, decorative and personalised wooden door plaques and fairy doors. And they have now created the perfect accessory to make the build-up to Christmas more exciting. As they sell gorgeous Christmas Elf Doors that can be placed on a wall above a skirting board or by your Christmas tree.
I want to keep the Christmas Elf Door as a surprise for Little Miss H. My plan is to put it on a wall outside her bedroom on the 30th November so that she believes it has magically appeared overnight.
A magic door
The first thing I noticed about the Christmas Elf Door was how festive it is. And I love all the extra little details that make the door really special.
I was impressed that the door had a proper white door frame. I’ve seen many fairy doors before that are literally a plain door that you stick to the wall. I felt that the door frame made the Flitterbee Christmas Elf Door more substantial. But at 9 cms wide and 17.5 cms in height with a thickness of approximately 1 cm this door is the perfect size to place on your wall. (And the box even contains handy stickers to help you put your door in place.)

The door is painted a beautiful vibrant red and is flecked with silver glitter (this colour is highlighted by the contrasting white of the door frame). The glitter makes the door look especially magical and I adored the way it sparkled in our fairy lights. It’s so Christmassy!
Beautiful details
My favourite thing about the Flitterbee Christmas Elf Door is the attention to detail. Hanging on the door is a Christmas wreath; made from green tinsel with holly berries created from tiny red beads and with a small red bow. It’s such a sweet feature and adds to the festive nature of this elf door.
I also adore the gold looking tiny door knocker, letterbox and stunning door handle. The door handle is especially ornate and has a beautiful jewel effect handle. It’s these tiny details that make this Christmas Elf Door extra special.

The door also comes with a small elf key (with a large label attached – which will hopefully prevent us from losing it), a tiny bottle of elf dust and a poem that tells you how to use the door. I can’t wait to read this poem with Little Miss H once she has spotted the Christmas Elf Door on the wall. Her favourite books feature fairies, elves and magic and so I know that she’ll find the poem enchanting.
“…where elves live and dance and play
sprinkling magic throughout the day.”

Just a little warning for if you have a very cheeky 15-month-old like we do. Apparently, it’s easy for small hands to remove the popper from the small bottle of elf dust. As I discovered when I found Little Mister H covered from head to foot in silver glitter … I mean … elf dust.
Through the keyhole
There is a lovely surprise when you open the intricate door handle. This Christmas Elf Door opens to reveal a perfectly festive image of Santa in his workshop writing letters by candlelight. I know that Little Miss H is going to love this. She’ll be very happy to know that Santa and his elves are working hard in preparation for Christmas.

Flitterbee also make a Christmas Elf Door that doesn’t open, an Opening Christmas Elf Door with a North Pole image and another opening door with miniature presents. But I love the Santa image. It looks like something from a Christmas card.

You can buy the Flitterbee Opening Christmas Elf Door with Santa Workshop Image from their website for £21.95. It’s a lovely way to bring the magic of Christmas and Santa Claus into your house. And if you have an Elf on the Shelf then this is the perfect accompaniment.
