The first year Mr H and I were together we forgot about Advent.
Late on 30th November we popped into our local Sainsburys to buy the last Advent Calendar they had in stock. It was pink and glittery and covered with pictures of Barbie: The Magic of Pegasus. This started a tradition of buying the girliest and pinkest Advent Calendar we could find.
Now Little Miss H is here we have started a new tradition at Advent.
Little Miss H adores books and so I love to present her with a book a day during Advent. Some of these books are new. But most are Christmas books that I have bought in previous years. Or books that we haven’t looked at for a while.
I love brown paper packages tied up with string. So I wrap the books up in brown Kraft paper and use some Baker’s twine for decoration. Add a simple Christmas luggage tag stamped with the date and I think that even Maria Von Trapp would love these little Advent presents.
We are lucky enough to be Parragon Book Buddies. And have been sent two gorgeous books for Christmas. I decided to bookend our Advent book calendar with these treats.
Jingle, Jingle Little Reindeer
On 1st December, Little Miss H opened up Jingle, Jingle Little Reindeer. A very cute little finger puppet book.
Little Miss H does love the reindeer finger puppet. She keeps on cuddling it and saying that it is “fluffy”.
But at two and a half years old, Little Miss H is too old for this book. However, I know that she would have loved it last Christmas and it would have made a lovely little stocking filler for her first Christmas.
The Night Before Christmas
I always read The Night Before Christmas to Little Miss H on Christmas Eve. I put the wrapped copy of the book in her Christmas Eve hamper. And before bed we snuggle on the sofa in our PJs, with some milk and read it.
I can’t wait to share the beautiful edition that we have been sent by Parragon Books with Little Miss. I know that she will be captivated.
The illustrations are fabulous. Full of bright Christmas colours, a cheerful Santa Claus and glittery presents.
It is beginning to feel a lot like Christmas. And I love to share these new festive traditions with our darling daughter.
Little Miss H and I were sent these books as part of the Parragon Book Buddies programme. But all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.
Hugs
Lucy

January 11, 2016 at 7:47 pmOh I just love the night before Christmas, I read it every year and this year as I read it to Joe I felt a little sad knowing it may be my last year reading it. x

February 26, 2016 at 9:06 amAwwww, that is so sad. It is hard when our children grow up and the traditions disappear. I am sure if you suggested reading it to them on Christmas Eve with some hot chocolate and mince pies then they would still love the idea. It is such a magical book and is just the perfect Christmas Eve story. Hugs Lucy xxxx

January 11, 2016 at 4:08 pmI LOVE the idea of a book advent calendar — it would work out so expensive though for the twins!! Unless they were to share the books. We put a couple of festive books in their Christmas eve box though and they were thrilled to bits with those! 🙂 xx

February 26, 2016 at 9:04 amThe Book Advent is such a lovely idea. I am sure it would be expensive for the twins. I try to only buy a few books each year. And I tend to buy a box set or any books on a deal. The other books in the Advent are from previous Christmasses or books that she hasn’t really looked at much throughout the year. Hugs Lucy xxxx

February 26, 2016 at 9:01 amLittle Miss H loves books and especially new books or firm favourites. She always thinks the puppets on these books are very fluffy! And if she could she would cuddle them to death. Hugs Lucy xxxx

December 11, 2015 at 10:34 pmThis is such a fabulous idea Lucy and I might just steal it for my pinterest board to remember to do it next year.
That night before Christmas book is just fabulous… and just look at Little Miss H’s curls. Such a sweetie xXx

December 11, 2015 at 10:39 pmThanks lovely. Little Miss H does have the cutest little curls. I love them. The Book Advent is such a lovely thing to do. It really gets us all in the mood for Christmas. And it needn’t cost the earth. Each year I spend a fiver buying cheap books or maybe a boxset that I break up into individual books. Then I just wrap up old books that we haven’t looked at much and the Christmas books that people have given us. Hugs Lucy xxxx

December 11, 2015 at 10:22 pmShe looks so captivated by that finger puppet book! I love the night before Christmas story, our copy got ruined quite a few years ago and I keep meaning to replace it. x

December 11, 2015 at 10:27 pmLittle Miss H thought the finger puppet was so cute. She kept on hugging it and tried a few times to detach it from the book. That is such a shame about your copy of The Night Before Christmas. This is such a beautiful copy and one that I know we will treasure for a long time. Hugs Lucy xxxx
