Our Weekend Happy

Our Weekend Happy 10 – Slowing down, Baking & Gardening

This is the tenth Our Weekend Happy post that I’ve written for this blog. I sadly missed writing last week’s post as my laptop had died and I had poorly children. But I really missed writing it. My Our Weekend Happy posts are becoming my favourite posts to write and read back. love writing these posts each week. No matter what kind of weekend we’ve had, It’s so nice to remind myself of all the happy moments from the weekend. I’ve also discovered, that writing these posts starts to get me excited for the coming weekend.

Anyway, in case you haven’t seen my previous Our Weekend Happy posts, it is based on a weekly post that one of my favourite bloggers, Lisa from Mummascribbles writes. I’ve always loved her posts. And so I decided that I wanted to write something similar.

Lisa and I now run Our Weekend Happy as a linky and an Instagram hashtag community. And tomorrow we’ll be hosting week nine and we’ll be sharing our favourite photos from the Instagram community during March.

We’d love you to join us and link up any happy blogs or vlogs about your weekend. Also, please remember to use the hashtag #ourweekendhappy for any Instagram photographs from your weekend.

Lisa and I look forward to reading your Our Weekend Happy posts.

Our weekend Happy – #10

Saturday 24th March 2018

A poorly boy and naps on the sofa

I have to admit that I don’t actually have much to say about last weekend. It was very boring.Little Mister H was really ill with a nasty virus. He had a high temperature, a nasty cough and was sick a few times. Annoyingly his cough had kept him up most of the night on Friday and then again on Saturday. So I got very little sleep and felt like a zombie for most of the weekend.

In fact, most of Saturday was spent lying on the sofa with Little Mister H hanging on to me. He does like to be with his Mummy when he is feeling poorly. So he would not let go of me. This did lead to us having a few lovely naps on the sofa together.

Colouring and reading

There were a few occasions when Little Mister H did go to his Daddy for cuddles. And I was then able to grab a shower or do another activity. But instead of rushing around, I decided to do some slow activities. Activities that involved me being mindful and not being attached to my phone. So I did some colouring and read some more of my book.

That was the whole of our Saturday. We didn’t venture outside. Little Mister H just needed us to be with him, at home. And that is exactly what we did.

Sunday 25th March 2018

A bit more activity

Little Mister H seemed to perk up a bit on Sunday. Although he and I were exhausted after he was up most of the night coughing. So we were very lazy on Sunday morning. But Little Mister H was a bit more active. He didn’t just want cuddles on the sofa. He actually played with his train set for a while, which was lovely to see.

As he was a little less dependant on me, I was able to nip upstairs and sleep for a few hours. And after lunch, I had a long, hot and relaxing bath.

Baking and Gardening

By this point, Little Miss H was feeling very sorry for herself. She was really bored. It wasn’t a fun weekend for her. So I decided that we would do some baking and then we would head out into the garden.

As Easter is approaching we made some of my Easter Rocky Road. Little Miss H loves to bake and she is actually a pretty good cook. She really enjoyed bashing the digestive biscuits with a rolling pin and mixing the biscuits, chocolate eggs and marshmallows together. And of course, she was very excited by the prospect of eating the rocky road.

After baking Little Miss H and I went out into the garden for a little bit. It was the first time that I’d been in the garden since Winter. And it was such a mess. I spent a few hours out there weeding, clearing up leaves and cleaning the patio. Little Miss H spent that time playing football and making very impressive mud pies.

Once we got back inside, it was time for dinner. This was followed by bath and bed for the kids. And it wasn’t long before I went to bed too.

Aww, poor Little Mr H 🙁 I am glad he perked up by the Sunday although it does sound like a lovely relaxing weekend that you had. Particularly napping, reading and colouring – which must I say, is very beautiful! Thanks for being my lovely co-host on #ourweekendhappy

I’m glad your little boy is on the mend. I am looking forward to some good weather so I can air my house properly and get rid of all those lingering winter viruses that my kids keep getting! Your rocky road looks delicious! We made some this weekend too for the first time… it’s a new favourite here! Happy Easter to you and your family. 🙂

I dunno what I’d kill for more, the rocky road, that colouring book or the shower!!! My other half had to go back to Greece for a funeral all last week and although I’ve thoroughly enjoyed crafting and bedroom picnics with the little dude, I’m definitely over due a shower and owed at least 12 kgs of that crazy, awesome rocky road!!!!!
