As soon as I saw the trailer for La La Land I knew that I had to see it. So on Tuesday, Little Mister H and I went to a special Mummy and Baby showing . And OMG, I bloody loved it! I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say that I’m obsessed. Since Tuesday I’ve listened to the soundtrack on repeat. And I’ve even pre-ordered the DVD. I’m not going to bore you by telling you why I fell in love with La La Land. The genius Mark…
Thoughts & Inspiration
Earlier this week, the lovely Lisa from Mummascribbles tagged me in The (not big or fat quiz) of the year. Lisa has been one of my favourite bloggers and best blogging buddies for quite a while. She is truly lovely. But she is also a brilliant writer. She wrote this fabulous letter to her first born son recently and I am sure it is a post that resonates with all parents of more than one child. For the past two years,…
"You can't control what happens in life but you can control your reaction to it." These words were written in a letter to me when I was in my early 20's and suffering terribly from depression. They were the very wise words of my wonderful Great Uncle David. In the past few days this phrase has been running through my mind. On Wednesday 9th November 2016, I woke up to a world that I didn't recognise.…
From a Mother to Another campaign with JoJo Maman Bébé
Posted on February 10, 2016If you have read my blog for a while, then you will know that I passionately believe in the fundemental purpose that charities and charity campaigns play in society. They play an essential role in ensuring that the world becomes a better place. A place where the vulnerable and disadvantaged in society are given the chance at a better life. I realise that I am blessed to live as I do and I believe that I have a social right and…
Happy New Year, dear readers. I hope you all celebrated New Year's Eve in style. We had a very quiet night in. Mr H and I celebrated by eating steak and chips and by playing lots of Wii and board games. It was very low key but it was lovely to spend the evening with my wonderful husband. It is now 2nd January 2016 and it is about time that I did a little review of 2015. 2015 was an odd year. It wasn't…
Today is my birthday. I am now 37 years old. I am not entirely sure how it happened but I appear to have entered my late thirties. Three years of the big 4-0. And it actually feels good. I spent much of my twenties deeply unhappy. My thirties have been a turning point for me. I am now happier in my own skin. And although I still have days when I struggle, I know what I need to do to make myself…
Talking PANTS with the NSPCC’s Underwear Rule
Posted on August 12, 2015I know that as a parent I can help to keep Little Miss H safe from abuse by talking to her about these threats. But I want to be able to talk to her without scaring her, without destroying her innocence and without taking away her belief that every new person she meets is a friend in the making. Thankfully the NSPCC have created the Underwear Rule to help parents, like myself, talk to our children about sexual abuse. It is…
The downfall of the London-based charity Kids Company has been all over the news this week. The former Chief Executive and founder of Kids Company is the hugely flamboyant Camila Batmanghelidjh. A larger than life character who had an amazing passion to help disadvantaged children. It now appears that the infrastructure of Kids Company failed to live up to the enthusiasm of its founder. I hope that in the passing weeks and months, as the postmortem on Kids Company is carried out people…
