Our little boy is eight months old. He is growing up too quickly.
Months pass in the blink of an eye. And the newborn days seem far behind us. Even at eight months old, Little Mister H seems to be approaching toddlerdom at a rate of knots. I wouldn’t be surprised if he starts walking before he is a year old.
But in the meantime I am treasuring every moment with our precious little munchkin. And he is such a joy to be with. Every one comments on what a happy and easy baby he is. We are so lucky to have him in our lives.
Little Mister H at eight months old
The past month or so
I missed Little Mister H’s seven month update as I was having some time off during February. My depression hasn’t been brilliant. So blogging took a backseat and spending time with my family and being kind to myself became a priority.
Despite my depression, the past month has been filled with some lovely moments.
We celebrated Little Mister H’s presence in our lives by throwing him a rainbow themed Welcome to the World party. Neither Mr H nor I agree with having our children baptised and so this was our opportunity to say how grateful we are to have such a wonderful son. We also chose some close friends to be Little Mister’s spare parents and play a very important part in his life. It was such a lovely celebration of our little boy and the highlight of my month.
Modelling for photographs
Last month, we bought a proper camera: a Nikon D3300 Digital SLR Camera. I still don’t really know what I am doing. So I am taking a huge number of photographs to practice and experiment with the different settings.
Of course, Little Miss H and Little Mister H are my models for these photographs. Which means I am able to capture more precious memories and the way they change as they grow.
And I love photographing Little Mister H. At eight months old he has become such a personality. As I hope theses photographs show.
The photos for this month’s update were all taken on our new camera. And Little Mister H is modelling the cutest personalised dinosaur babygrow from Sgt. Smith. I adore the grey and yellow marl fabric and Little Mister H does look gorgeous in it. We decided to have it personalised with Little Mister H and that he was discovered in 2016. However it can also be personalised to say Lucysaurus or Olliesaurus. Cuteness overload!!!
Feeding
We have been weaning Little Mister H for two months now and it is slow progress. He seems desperate for solid food but he really struggles with anything that isn’t given to him as a puree.
I have given him toast and bananas as well as other finger food. But it always leads to him gagging and throwing up his last feed. Poor little man.
So we have been giving him puree but just like his Mummy he has a very sweet tooth. He turns his nose up at anything savoury. In fact, he often blows raspberries and the vegetable puree goes all over me.
But he’ll happily gobble up anything that is fruit based. He always eats a whole bowl of baby porridge for breakfast. And he does love a snack. His particular favourites are the blueberry and banana wafers by Kiddilicious.
I am hoping that we will have a weaning breakthrough at some point. I wonder if I need to be more organised about the food I introduce to him and when. If anyone has any tips on how to introduce more solid foods to a baby who can’t tolerate them then please do let me know in the comments.
Sleeping
At the moment, Little Mister H is ill and his sleep isn’t great. He is comfortable when sleeping in my arms but he is not happy on his own. But I am sure that this is just a blip because he is poorly.
Normally he sleeps brilliantly. He will go down between 20:00 and 21:00 and then sleep until 06:00 or 07:00. Often he wakes up and you can give him a bottle and he then falls back to sleep. I have had to wake him up a few times to dress him so that we get Little Miss to pre-school on time.
He is still sleeping in his bed nest in our room but I don’t think he will be in there much longer. Although I am really not ready for him to sleep in his own cot. I love hearing his snuffly breath as he lies next to me. And it is so reassuring being able to put a hand on him and check that he is okay.
He has begun to nap in his room though. And I often put him down in his cot when he looks sleepy. He will then play for a little with some of his favourite soft toys. But it won’t be long before he is snoozing happily.
Development at eight months old
Appearance
Little Mister H now has a full head of hair. It is still fine but there is a lot of it. I love how fluffy it looks after he has had a bath.
It is still very blonde. He really is our blonde blue eyed boy. I am sure Little Miss H’s hair was beginning to become darker at eight months old.
It is amazing that our two children have very different body types. Little Miss H has always been long and slim. At eight months old she was already wearing size 12 months in clothes.
Little Mister H is smaller and chubbier than his sister was at this age. But I adore his little chubby cheeks and legs. I just want to squish them all day long.
He is still wearing 6-9 month clothes but is quickly growing out of these. I have just been on a spending spree in H&M and bought him some gorgeous summer clothes in 9-12 months.
Milestones
1. Sitting unsupported
Little Mister H can now sit on his own for long periods of time. However, just because he can doesn’t mean that he will. He will deliberately nose dive when sitting as he prefers to be on his tummy rolling around or attempting to crawl.
2. Almost crawling
Little Mister H is on the cusp of crawling. I am sure that it will happen any day now. He will get onto all fours and rock back and forth. And on the right surface he can crawl backwards. But crawling forwards on carpet is more problematic and he is getting frustrated.
3. Ready to stand
Our little man loves to stand. He will give you the biggest smile if you stand him up. He can quite happily stand on his own for long periods of time if he is holding on to something. And when sitting you can see that he is desperately trying to sit up. Those little stomach muscles are working overtime. I can’t believe how eager he is to be on the move.
4. Grabbing
Little Mister likes to grab everything. Mostly things he shouldn’t. But he also likes to pull my hair and I can only wear teething necklaces otherwise I risk being strangled. He has such a strong grip. His dexterity has really improved over the last month. He can now pick up smaller items. And he will often throw something on the floor just so he can enjoy picking it up again. He will quite happily take his dummy out of his mouth and pop it back in again. And he loves passing toys from one hand to the next. This often leads to unintentional clapping.
5. Growing teeth
He now has two teeth. Little Mister H’s two bottom teeth came through at exactly the same time. His top teeth now look like they are working their way through.
6. Separation anxiety
Our carefree boy is suffering from separation anxiety at the moment. He will whimper if we leave the room. He gets very upset if he can’t see his beloved Mummy. Little Mister H is certainly a Mummy’s boy. And I love it!
Please pop back in a few weeks when I will be sharing Little Mister H’s nine month update. I can’t believe that our baby boy will then be three months away being a one year old.
Hugs
Lucy

March 24, 2017 at 10:11 pmHi mrs h, my second son is I think a week younger than yours and my eldest I think is a little older than little miss h. I believe that little miss h and my eldest may possibly end up at the same school as I saw you at a couple of school visits ( I’m not a secret stalker, I promise).
I just thought I’d get in contact with you for a couple of reasons he first to help with your concerns with n weaning little mr h; I wouldn’t worry about him gagging and bringing us his last feed my two have and the newest currently still does. It’s a perfectly normal thing for babies to do. In fact it’s probably a good thing as babies have a gag reflex which is a lot lower down their youngest than ours so they are just learning how to deal with food. It’s better they learn to chew before swallowing as they will be less likely to choke. As stressful and disturbing as it is it’s best to let them get on with it. Just remember the mantra foood before one is fun; babies only really need milk until then anyway. There are lots of amazing baby led weaning groups on Facebook that will hopefully help ease your mind that this is all perfectly normal.
My second reason is that I too have suffered from depression and understand a lot of the feelings you go through and I salute you in bringing how you feel out to the masses to get mental illness into the mainstream.
Sorry for the essay, but if you ever feel you need someone else to talk to then I’m a tunny wells mum who’s here for you xxx
