As a child, I used to help my parents out in the garden. And I’d always enjoyed gardening. But, until just after Little Miss H’s second birthday, I’d never had a garden of my own. After I met Mr H we lived in a flat in London and we later bought a two-bedroom apartment in Medway.
It was only when we moved into our current house that we finally had some outdoor space.
On the day we moved in, I looked out of our back window and felt a thrill of excitement about the possibility of managing a garden. But I was more than a little clueless about what that would actually involve. And I had no idea how I was going to look after our two flower beds. Fortunately the lovely people at BloomBox Club came to my rescue.
Gardening myself happy with BloomBox Club – a review
BloomBox Club is a plant subscription service. Once every few months, a box of beautiful plants is delivered to your doorstep. You can then choose whether to plant these in flower beds or in pots around your garden.
BloomBox Club also provide an indoor option for around the house and you can buy individual plants from them too. I received one of their Outdoor Plant Boxes in early spring.
There were two things that I noticed as soon as I unboxed the plants. Firstly, they are carefully packaged in individual pots, a recyclable container and a larger box for delivery. As a consequence, they arrived in brilliant condition.
Secondly, I was really impressed with the plant care information that BloomBox Club send. Each of the plants came with their own care card and this information was also sent to me via email with a link to the blog. Their blog is amazing, with loads of tips on how to bring greenery into your home or garden.
Growing my green fingers
We were sent five hardy plants that could be planted in any kind of soil. Which is useful as the soil in our garden is mostly clay.
The shrubs selected by the experts at BloomBox Club are perfect for the season and are either just blooming or about to bloom. Our subscription box included a variegated laurel and a ladder ivy, both of which I transferred to the garden with no trouble at all.
I loved being able to get outside and add these plants to our garden. And I’m so proud that they are still out there looking healthy and well.
Gardening and mindfulness
Gardening has become a great source of relaxation in my life. It also gives me the opportunity to be mindful. And practicing mindfulness is a great way to help my mental health.
Getting out into the garden allows me to focus my attention entirely on the task at hand. Whether it is weeding, pruning, digging or planting. I also love immersing myself in the nature around me. The feel of the soil and the textures and colours of the leaves and flowers.
This new hobby has been especially helpful during times when I’ve felt low and depressed. And a quick look online suggests that I’m not the only person who uses gardening as a therapy to improve their mental health.
And BloomBox Club understand the role that gardening can play in wellbeing. Their founder, Dr Katie Cooper, was a practising psychologist before setting up the company.
So if you are a gardening novice, but believe your mental health would benefit from reconnecting with nature then I’d definitely recommend the BloomBox Club subscription service.
Five things I love about gardening thanks to BloomBox Club
1. Gaining confidence from learning a new set of skills.
2. Getting out in the fresh air and dosing up on Vitamin D.
3. Tidying up our garden and making it a much nicer place to spend summer days with Little Miss H and Little Mister H.
4. Discovering a new hobby.
5. Feeling relaxed and mindful. My garden has become a sanctuary where I can manage my own mental health.
Do you love gardening too? Are you a novice like me?
Hugs
